The Oasis Church Membership
Making a Difference
"But now God hath set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased Him."
(1 Cor. 12:18)
You will bring your faith to life as you join other Christians who share your values and spiritual goals! Membership is more than simply a statement of where you worship, it is a commitment to the mission and ministries of The Oasis Church. Members serve together as we experience intimacy with God, influence in our community, inspiration across the nation, and impact in the world with the Gospel of Jesus Christ! As you connect with this local body of believers, you can develop a deeper sense of significance and belonging in the universal family of God.
Membership at The Oasis Church is viewed as an active participation, not just an addition to a roll. Because of this, we want to help you make a solid connection to the life and family of the Church. We want to communicate each of the requirements with you and help you understand.
The process is truly a partnership. There are some things that the Church must do and there are some things that you must do. Because our process is somewhat different than what most of our candidates have experienced at other churches, please read through this information carefully. The process must be completed before you can be considered for membership.
- Attending the class does not make you a member.
- Completing the application does not make you a member.
- Longevity at The Oasis Church does not make you a member.
- Ministry does not make you a member.
- Participation in a fellowship group does not make you a member.
- Baptism does not make you a member.
- Each of these is important and contributes to a sense of connection. Only when they are brought together through the complete process, however, do you become a member.
1. Attend Membership Classes
Because of the need for a consistent understanding of membership expectations and process, every candidate for membership must attend the classes. Simply receiving the materials is not sufficient. Simply completing the application form similarly is not ample. We believe so strongly in the benefit of these classes that it is required to begin the process.
2. Complete the Membership Application
In the membership packet you will find a Membership Profile form. This is the application for church membership. Please complete it carefully and completely. The information you provide will be shared with the Church staff and will be kept confidential.
3. Interview with one of the Ministry Staff
It is important that you interview with one of our Ministry Staff. The purpose of this meeting is for you to share your testimony and talk over each of the requirements for membership. If you need help in meeting one or several of the requirements, the staff member will make some recommendations on your next steps. If you have any questions about the church, this is your opportunity to find some answers. If your requirements have been satisfactorily met, you name will be forwarded to the Ministry Staff. If you have not met the requirements, you will need to meet them before your application is submitted to the Ministry Staff for recommendation.
4. Recommendation by the Ministry Staff
If all of your requirements have been met for membership (as determined above), the entire Ministry Staff will review your application.
5. Approval by the Ministry Staff
Based on the recommendation of the Ministry Staff, you will receive a letter from the church indicating membership approval.
6. Public Reception of New MembersFollowing Membership approval, you will be publicly and officially received by the Ministry Staff and current church members during a Sunday a.m. service. A membership reception will follow.
Welcome to the Family of The Oasis Church!
Requirements for Membership
• A Valid Testimony of Salvation
Christ is the head of the Church. For this reason, it is imperative that only those who acknowledge Him as Savior are part of the membership. You will be asked to write your testimony of how and when you first invited Christ into your life. You will also be asked to share your story verbally during the membership interview. If you have not been baptized by immersion following your conversion, or baptized with the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in other tongues, you will also get the opportunity to do so.
Your testimony is a very personal experience. One of the greatest joys the ministry staff has is hearing you relate your story. It is a cause for great celebration! Some people have never articulated their story. We want to help you shape your story so that it is concise and is clear. It can be one of the best tools to bring others to Christ.
• Agreement with our Statement of Faith
The purpose of our statement of faith is to provide the common understanding of the essential elements of our faith. Because of the wide diversity of church backgrounds that are present at The Oasis Church, it is important that you read it carefully. If there are questions as to the meaning of specifics, please share these questions with someone from the ministry staff.
• Agreement with our Core Values
The Core Values are a composite of who we are and want to be as a church. By agreeing to the values, you are saying that you want to make a difference in the church and in the community for Jesus Christ.
• Believer's Baptism by Immersion
The Bible is clear that baptism is the immersion of a believer in water. If you have not yet experienced the tremendous joy of being baptized as a believer, you will want to contact a staff member to talk about this important event in your spiritual journey. For more information about baptism, please contact the office at 293-4356.
• Baptism in the Holy Spirit
The Word of God is also quite clear concerning the Baptism of the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in other tongues. John, the first Baptist, addressed it, Jesus talked about it, as well as every writer in the New Testament. The Apostle Paul spent much of his time communicating about this wonderful gift that belongs to every believer. For more information about Holy Spirit Baptism, please call the office at 293-4356 or pick up one the mini-books at the Resource table.
• Fellowship Connection with The Oasis Church family
Oasis is not a place. It is a gathering of persons who know and follow Jesus Christ. We meet for worship and teaching and just as importantly, for fellowship with one another. It is critical for your own spiritual health that you share your life with others through a fellowship group or a ministry team. It is so important that it has become a requirement for membership. We aren't looking for more attendees, we are looking for people who want to invest their lives in making a difference in our church and world. For help finding a fellowship connection, contact the office.
• Ministry Participation
The priesthood of all believers is the Biblical doctrine that all believers have been given direct access to the Father through Jesus Christ and are given specific roles. These roles are expressed through ministry to one another in the Body of Christ. Ministry is one of the best ways to gain a real sense of contribution and connection to the Church as a whole. For help finding a ministry group to serve with at The Oasis Church, please consult your Ministry Profile form or contact the office.
